The BBC2 program 2 weeks ago ‘Inside the Factory’ included a trip to Kew Gardens to see Research leader and Coffee expert Aaron Davis. John has also been lucky enough to spend some time with Aaron last year which was kindly setup by fellow Kew researcher Dr David Simpson who happens to be John’s cousin. Talking coffee with Aaron and seeing some of the samples stored at Kew was a true honour. One example was the Ambongensis bean which is the worlds largest coffee bean. The work Aaron and the Spacial Sciences team at Kew are doing could help reshape the geographical landscape for where and how Coffee is grown. This is to help understand and combat the effects of global warming which is forcing Coffee plantations to higher altitudes in order to grow more resilient and robust Coffee yielding plants.
